Spotlight Screenings: Casting Jesus by Christian Jankowski

The first season of Spotlight Screenings ends with Christian Jankowski's seminal film Casting Jesus. In 2011, the German artist went on a quest to find the Second Coming, auditioning 13 professional actors to take on the role of Jesus Christ. Using the talent show format, Jankowski collaborated with an expert panel from the Vatican to pick their newly resurrected religious icon. Those competing for the crown complete a variety of tasks from breaking bread to performing a miracle and carrying the cross, as well as dramatic interpretations of their favourite Jesus quotes.
To conclude the first six-week programme, themed around the topics of ‘Excess/access/absence’ – Jankowski will be introducing the work with two live conversations streamed from his studio on 4 & 5 May, for more details click through here.
