'The Sea Around Us' featuring Laure Prouvost at Nice Arts Biennale, France
6 May 2025
From 7 May – 4 October 2025, the 6th edition of the Nice Arts Biennale, titled ‘The Sea Around Us’, will present works by leading national and international artists – including Laure Prouvost – in public spaces across the city.
For the past ten years, she has explored questions of fluidity and liquidity: the sea appears in her work as a metaphor for the unconscious, since it remains one of the last unexplored places on our planet. She notably deploys octopus figures that have the unique characteristic of containing their sensory and cerebral organs in their tentacles. Here, the octopus seems to emerge from the lawn. It invites us to pay attention to the voice of a universe and invisible beings: that of the United Nations of the underwater worlds. With fantasy and poetry, the artist and her totem animal invite us to consider a potential world, made of inter-species relationships and alliances.
