Sculpture by Ryan Gander in 'Play Well' at Wellcome Collection

7 November 2019

Ryan Gander is included in the group exhibition ‘Play Well’ opening at London’s Wellcome Collection this Friday 25 October. The exhibitions asks essential questions around why we play, what it means to play well, and its importance at every stage of life.

Exploring how play transforms both childhood and society using toys, games, artworks and design, the exhibition investigates how we played as children and how we play now we’re grown up: developing social bonds, emotional resilience and physical wellbeing. Ryan Gander presents his work I is...(v). Produced in marble, the structure recreates the form of a den as created by his then 3-year-old daughter using umbrellas, a double bed sheet and a hardback book.
