Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery opens with Anish Kapoor exhibition

7 March 2019

Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery will reopen on Saturday 16 March with an exhibition by celebrated sculptor Anish Kapoor, following more than three years of renovations. The former country residence of architect Sir John Soane in Ealing, West London, has been conserved and restored to Soane’s original design, and will host a rotating exhibitions programme that reanimates his vision to inspire and enrich communities with art, architecture and design.

The Gallery’s inaugural exhibition is a solo presentation by Anish Kapoor, containing new and recent works, some of which are on display for the first time. The selection of steel and lacquer works on show echoes Soane’s complex use of mirrors and light to double and dissolve space, engaging and disorienting the viewer by transforming their surroundings, allowing for new perceptions of the building's architecture.
