Minneapolis Institute of Art announces largest North American solo exhibition to date by Anish Kapoor, opening September
28 March 2024
The Minneapolis Institute of Art has announced the largest exploration of Anish Kapoor's practice in North America to date with the exhibition 'Anish Kapoor: Reverie and Rupture', opening on 29 September 2024.
Featuring works from the 1970s to the present, the exhibition surveys the material and philosophical strategies that have inspired Kapoor as he has expanded the territory of global abstraction and transported viewers to the limits of personal perception.
More than forty works demonstrate Kapoor's range: monumental sculptures in PVC, stone, stainless steel, and wax; delicate and illusionistic pigment works; sculptures created with nanotechnology that confound our perception of reality; site-specific architectural interventions; and recent paintings. Visitors' experience begins outside the galleries, with several large works integrated into spaces throughout the museum, introducing the recurring themes in Kapoor’s practice: perception and reality, love and fear, self and universe, male and female, creation and destruction—always with an underlying sense of mystery.
Following the premiere at Mia, from September 29, 2024 to January 5, 2025, the exhibition will travel to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in summer 2025 and the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, in fall 2025.
