Major retrospective exhibition by Marina Abramovic on view in Belgrade
8 October 2019A major survey exhibition on the work of Marina Abramović, 'The Cleaner', is now on view at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, Serbia. Organised by Stockholm's Moderna Museet, where it was first shown in 2017, the exhibition has since been presented in seven European cities, including at the Louisiana Museum of Art, Copenhagen, and the Bundeskunsthalle, Bonn. The presentation at MoCAB marks its final stop, and Abramović's first exhibition in the city for over forty years, displaying over 120 works from the 1960s to the present day.
'The Cleaner' brings together original documentation of Abramović's recent and historical sound and performance works, as well as paintings, drawings, photography, objects and archival material. Live reenactments by mostly native Serbian performers of works including Art must be beautiful, artist must be beautiful (1975) and Imponderabilia (1977) will take place throughout the run of the exhibition.
'The Cleaner' is on view at MoCAB until 20 January 2020. A full schedule of performances can be found at MoCAB's website.
