6 July 2026
Leiko Ikemura has been announced as a participating artist for 'TOKYO ATLAS,' the first international art exhibition to be held in Tokyo 's waterfront area. Domestic and international artists, including Leiko Ikemura and Yayoi Kusama, will present site-specific works in urban spaces such as parks and underground parking lots.
The highlight of this area will be a giant sculpture by Leiko Ikemura, approximately 6 meters tall, to be installed on the beach of Odaiba Seaside Park. Ikemura said, "I visited the site many times and thought about the historical significance of Odaiba and the relationship between the city and nature. I wanted to create a work that embodies the power of primal nature hidden in the city, as well as the possibilities and dreams that the city holds." Other participants include Kenta Ishige, Rui Mizuki, and Yao Zhao.
'TOKYO ATLAS' is an international art exhibition organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Tokyo International Cultural and Arts Festival Executive Committee, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture. It is being held for the first time this year as part of 'ARTE TOKYO ,' which will feature art, theater, music, and entertainment across various locations in Tokyo, and will take place in three areas: Odaiba, Aomi, and Tennozu.
