29 June 2026
The Bangkok Art Biennial has announced the participation of Leiko Ikemura in this year's edition.
Bangkok Art Biennale, set in the capital city of Thailand, was founded in 2017 with the mission to transform the bustling city of Bangkok into Southeast Asia’s leading contemporary art destination. Taking over public spaces around the city including temples and heritage sites over the course of four months, the biennale highlights the city’s charm by bridging Rattanakosin cultural heritage with Bangkok urbanism.
The internationally renowned artist Leiko Ikemura shifts between luminous paintings, introspective drawings and watercolours, glazed terracotta sculptures, glass and ceramics. She studied at the Osaka University of Foreign Studies (1970–1972) and at the University of Fine Arts in Seville (1973–1978). Recent international exhibitions include Motherscape, Albertina, Vienna (2025), the Bienal de São Paulo (2025), Light on the Horizon, HEREDIUM, Daejeon (2024), Our Planet, The National Art Center, Tokyo (2019).
