‘How Lies the Land?’ featuring Laure Prouvost at the Folkestone Triennial, United Kingdom
23 July 2025
Until 19 October 2025, the Folkestone Triennial presents its sixth edition ‘How Lies the Land?’ featuring Laure Prouvost. This year, 18 artists from more than 15 countries have created artworks exploring the ground beneath our feet – from its deep histories to the futures it holds.
Art has appeared in unexpected places across Folkestone, including old railway lines, empty buildings, coastal paths and everyday public spaces. Visitors can explore large-scale sculptures, sound installations, digital works and community collaborations that offer new ways of seeing the town – and the world – around us.
Language – in its broadest sense – permeates the video, sound, installation and performance work of Laure Prouvost. Known for her immersive and mixed-media installations that combine film and installation in humorous and idiosyncratic ways, Prouvost’s work addresses miscommunication and ideas becoming lost in translation. Playing with language as a tool for the imagination, Prouvost is interested in confounding linear narratives and expected associations among words, images and meaning. She combines existing and imagined personal memories with artistic and literary references to create complex film installations that muddy the distinction between fiction and reality.
