Contemporary Art Society screening Laure Prouvost's 'Monolog' for 72 hours

1 July 2020

As the final instalment of it's CAS at Home series of screenings, the Contemporary Art Society is showing Laure Prouvost's 2009 film Monolog for 72 from midday on 1 July. Donated to the Whitworth Gallery, Manchester by the CAS in 2012, this provocative and eloquent film is a witty and direct challenge to the notion of the artist’s identity and institutional regulations imposed upon the viewing of art and the behaviour of a supposedly captive audience. Prouvost parodies her own role as a director and the role of the audience as she directs attention to the screening space itself. The film addresses the fallibility of language as a means of communication splicing together seemingly random snippets of footage, text and voiceover in a surreal stream of personal associations.
