Art21 Premiere of "Human Nature" featuring Josh Kline
10 June 2026
Art21 presents the premiere of the new episode "Human Nature" featuring artists Josh Kline.
Art21's newest season of Art in the Twenty-First Century will conclude with the third episode, "Human Nature." The four celebrated artists featured in 'Human Nature' explore the central questions surrounding what it means to be human: investigating our impact on the environment and the world around us, probing the social and economic systems that define our daily lives, and discovering how we relate and connect with one another. Through their critical yet hopeful reflections on the shared project of being human, these four artists emphasize our collective power to shape our communities, current realities, and coming futures.
Josh Kline works in installation, video, sculpture, and photography. In his works, he questions how emergent technologies are being used to change human life in the 21st Century. Some of his most well-known videos use early deep fake software to speculate on the meaning of truth in a time of post-truth propaganda. At its core, Kline’s prescient practice is focused on work and class, exploring how today’s most urgent social and political issues—climate change, automation, disease, and the weakening of democracy—impact the people who make up the labor force.
