Spencer Finch chose many of the found envelopes for this new series for their formal and trompe l’oeil qualities. The safety pattern found in the envelope in Gorgeous Nothing 10 recalls Jasper Johns’ renowned crosshatch paintings. Here, Finch pays homage by collaging a group of the late American artist’s flagstone shapes in his secondary colors onto the envelope.
