Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian (b. 1922 in Qazvin, Iran) was the first Iranian artist to have a solo exhibition at The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, US (2015). Other exhibitions include; Jameel Art Centre, Dubai, UAE (2023); High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA, USA (2022); Centre Pompidou, Paris, France (2021); Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK (2021); Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Ireland (2018); Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah, UAE (2019); Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, US (2019); Grand Rapids Art Museum, Michigan, US (2018); Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, Porto, Portugal (2014), Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, US (2015); Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Chicago, US (2017); Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, US (2017); The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas (2013); Farmanfarmaian participated in the 1964 and 2009 Venice Biennales, and represented Iran in the 1958 Venice Biennale, where she was awarded the Gold Medal for her contribution.
