Photograph of Carmen Herrera in her Paris studio, c. 1948–53. Herrera first moved to Paris in 1948 with her husband Jesse Lowenthal. She remained living on the Left Bank in Montparnasse until 1953, where she developed a lyrical, sketch-like abstract style that would later become more rational and geometric after moving to New York in the 1960s.
