Pedro Reyes at Turner Contemporary, Margate

16 October 2015

Following its debut at Lisson Gallery in 2013, Pedro Reyes’s ambitious installation Disarm is now currently on view at Turner Contemporary in Margate.

Disarm (Mechanized) is an ambitious installation resulting from Mexican artist Pedro Reyes’s international project in which illegal firearms were used to fabricate musical instruments. As part of the Year of Mexico in the UK, the installation at Turner Contemporary features automated performances using these instruments, with full performances at midday every Friday and Saturday until January 2016. More information on the exhibition at Turner Contemporary is available here.

Further presentations of Disarm (Mechanized) will take place as part of the group exhibition Transformers at MAXXI in Rome (11 November 2015 - 6 March 2016) and as part of Resistance Performed – Aesthetic Strategies under Repressive Systems in Latin America at MIGROS Museum for Contemporary Art in Zurich (21 November 2015 - 7 February 2016).
