Following the sensationalism of the YBA generation of artists and the prominence of British art internationally over the last decade, there is considerable interest in the next generation of artists.
'A Shot in the Head' combines the younger generation of Lisson Gallery artists with a selection of innovative emerging artists that are pointing towards new directions.
This exhibition aims to offer an insight into the world of some of the most diverse and esoteric young artists working today. From Koen Vanmechelen's 'Cosmopolitan Chicken', a breeding quest that aims to produce the definitive European chicken; to Graham Gussin and Jeremy Millar's 'Abandoned Airport', a work which offers an opportunity to undertake a clandestine mission to a hidden location in Norway.
'A Shot in the Head' follows in the tradition of other large group shows presented at the Lisson Gallery over the last decade, 'Real Allegories', 1989; 'Out of Sight, Out of Mind', 1993; 'Wonderful Life', 1994; 'Ideal Standard Summertime', 1996; and 'Then and Now' 1998;
Many artists included in these shows continue to develop interesting work. Six artists from 'Wonderful Life' are currently exhibiting in ' Intelligence, New British Art 2000' at Tate Britain.
